I can’t believe it’s October already.
I’m a little disappointed with my performance in September – I only read 12 books (down from my normal 18 or so) but I guess that is symptomatic of having a life every now and then. My diversity stats are down as well with my reading list from last month looking very white which is also not what I’m aiming for.
One of my other goals for the month was do a bigger push with the blog, and I’m pretty happy with how that is working out – thank you to all you wonderful people who like and comment on our posts. We really appreciate you taking the time to stop by.
My favourite book that I read in September was this one:
I read a lot of great books in September, so this was a tough choice. But Becky Chambers character building and character driven plots just make me so happy.
My October challenge is:
I am challenging myself to not buy any books OR request any books through Netgalley for the month of October.
My pile of books that I have purchased but not yet read (both physical and digital) is downright embarrassing, as is my Netgalley queue which is completely out of control. You know when you request stuff and don’t think it will be approved? Yeah, that keeps happening (which is great!) October is my month to get a jump on both of these without adding any more to the stack.
I confess that I know for a fact that I’m going to fail this tomorrow – I’m going to a book talk and book signing and it would be downright unsporting of me not to purchase a book at this event. I also accidentally requested something from Netgalley this morning (part of a series I have started reading). But apart from that, dear reader, I promise I will do my best to be faithful to my promise, no matter what amazing deals Amazon and Audible throw at me. The other caveats are my existing subscriptions – they will stay in place. But apart from that, I’m going to be good, I promise.
I’m also setting myself a diversity challenge, which I’ll post more about in the coming days, but I do have a bunch of great books by diverse authors just waiting to be devoured.
What are your goals or challenges for October?
Good luck for that no-new-books challenge 😛 Although 12 books is still really impressive. I wish I was able to read that much in a month, so I applaud you 🙂

Your book hoarding on NetGalley sounds like me but I don’t think I can stick to my promise of not requesting any new ones. But you’re right about buying and not reading. I have since stopped buying because the library & NetGalley already supplied too much. I’m jealous that you can read so many books in a month! But yet you still have a long list of books to read? 😊

It’s great your local library and Netgalley can supply what you are after. I will generally check with my local library before I buy but they cater more to the older demographic in this area. I maximise my reading time with a long commute and I don’t watch TV. But yes, since joining Litsy (like Facebook for book lovers) my TBR is totally out of control. It’s a pretty awesome little community.

I don’t watch TV either and hardly read the news. I will look up Litsy. Never heard before 😊

I’m on Goodreads too, yes. I’d be lost without it.

My goal is to read ALL my NetGalley titles and catch up with my library books! So that I don’t keep falling behind! Good luck🍀!!

Wow that sounds ambitious!! I’ll be happy if I can get my netgalley queue under control by the end of the year. Good luck to you – I look forward to reading your reviews!!

I’ve got to get reading! My list of books to read is getting ridiculous but I just love knowing I’m never going to run out of books and why are there so many books that look good enough to read! Good luck 🙂

Thank you, and thanks for dropping by! My current TBR on Goodreads is over 300 books at the moment and I could probably double that easily. I love knowing there are so many awesome books out there just waiting for me to find them 😊
